I LOVE IT! Sorry for yelling there but I just got so excited, haha. Hey, there's nothing wrong with 90's pop hits and I adore the dress and the hair! Those shoes, if I could walk in them I'd own a pair!

It's quite alright! yelling is a good thing as I know you approve, haha. I'm glad you don't find the nineties theme too strange. I felt it was a bit as this is about Lestat and such. I'm pleased you like the outfit as well! and the shoes are gorgeous, I'd wear them too if I could!

-----------------------------------------------

I donned my scarlet gown with such elegance that the idea of standing out at this masquerade struck me. I began to feel a little nauseous as my driver pulled up outside a stunning ivory building. Just under two weeks ago, my on going research had discovered some rather interesting facts about this place, as well as those who owned it. To my knowledge thus far, there were two very wealthy and old fashioned men who never ventured out in the daylight, and they did not seem to bat an eyelid at the disappearance of so many locals within the area. The tragedies that hung about in this small community were astonishing, and quite shocking when gone over in detail. For years I had searched high and low for any matter of evidence that would lead me to the things I wanted to find most; immortals. Those who knew me thought very poorly of my chosen career path, believing it would amount to absolutely nothing and I would soon be begging them for forgiveness and help along the way. The memory made me scoff a little, and I pushed the depressing thoughts from my mind as time had taught me to do. I had lost many a friend on my ventures, mostly to the ridiculous state in which I ended up after each investigation. My friends and family thought nothing of me now. They wanted nothing more to do with me, and so here I am living a life so cold and lonely.

My driver cleared his throat after a short while, indicating that I had better get a move on so he could get back to work. I apologised severely, handing him my money and thanking him for bringing me so far into the town. Perhaps, next time I could walk and explore the grounds a little, despite my hotel being so far away from these parts. As I looked at the sights around me, I gasped in delight. The sheer beauty of nature made me all giddy inside, and as I climbed the steps into the building, I smiled.

“Good evening, Madame” an elderly man said, holding the doors open for me.

I nodded my head in response, too awestruck to form words as my eyes scanned the interior of this beautiful house. If there were indeed immortals living within these walls, they certainly had good taste. I cringed inwardly at the reference and followed a small group of people into what I presumed was their very own masquerade themed ballroom. Everything around me was either ivory or ebony, two colours I found went incredibly well together. I stood aside near one of the doors on the opposite side of the room, watching and waiting as thousands of people piled in and began chatting amongst each other. Everyone looked wonderful. The men with their business-like suits and the women in flowing gowns. I noticed that almost everyone here was wearing a mask to shield their eyes and panicked. How I could have forgotten all about my mask was beyond me, and I quickly hurried back toward the front door. Unfortunately, the man who had bid me good evening only minutes ago stopped me in my tracks as I tried to leave. He explained that if I left now, I would not be able to get back in once the masquerade had begun. Torn between staying for information and the need to hide my face, I hopped from one foot to the other in annoyance. I could not make up my mind, but knew that a mask was absolutely vital, else I would be thrown out anyway.

“Forgive me, Sir. Do you know where I might find a mask? I have not brought mine with me” I said.

The man looked at me with wonder, but **** a small smile and ushered another man over to us. He explained my predicament and suggested I follow the other man into another room where they held a wide selection of masks for guests. I beamed at the thought of being able to choose from such elegant designs and followed behind the man like a child walking into a candy store.

Once inside the room, I was surprised to find several tables topped with the most beautiful masks I had ever seen. Each had its own intricate design, and each had its own colour and texture. After spending a few moments looking at them all, I had picked the one I wanted. I lifted it from the table and turned my head to the man, asking if this one was alright to take. He nodded and smiled, approving of my choice as he helped me tie the back of it. I exhaled deeply, certain now that no one would be able to make any guesses at who I was now that half my face was hidden behind a gorgeous red and gold velvet masquerade mask.

“You look stunning” the man said, offering his arm as he led me out of the room.

“Thank you” I replied, blushing a little.

Once we were back in the ballroom, he released me and went about his work again. I was beginning to feel a little lonesome as I slumped lazily in a chair at my own table, watching couples waltz around the floor as though they had wings. Sighing, I dropped my head down onto my arms and tried to fall into a deep sleep to pass the time. The music that was playing made it awfully difficult to do so, and I had to grin at the song choices that were the theme of the evening. For two very old fashioned hosts, classic pop hits of the nineties did not seem an appropriate choice, and yet I couldn’t help but wonder why they had chosen such music.

The sound of a song I had not heard in a long time played at a steady volume, and my head popped up, along with a growing smile on my lips. I grooved in my chair as I listened, now pouting at how badly I wanted to get up and dance. I realised that dancing alone would make me look rather silly, so I continued to dance where I was, happily watching the couples as they passed by my table.

“Mon dieu, I have never seen such a beautiful creature” a male voice spoke, with a heavy French accent.

I snapped my head to the sound instantly, almost choking on my tongue at the sight before me. There, right in front of me and standing tall, was a very pale, brown haired man with piercing green eyes. He was dressed in very Victorian style clothes and had his hair hanging loose around his shoulders. My mouth was hanging open for the bugs as I looked him up and down approvingly. He noticed me doing this and chuckled under his breath before offering his hand and asking me if I would like to dance.

“Would I?!” I said under my breath, laying my hand in his.

I jumped back a bit at how cold it was, but soon realised it didn’t make a difference. This man, whoever he was, had to be the most beautiful being I had ever seen in my life. He looked upon me as he pulled me close against him and began dancing slowly. The song I had been listening to had changed to one of a much slower pace, and as we twirled around the floor, I could not tear my eyes away from his. He seemed to be thinking the exact same thoughts as me, though he smiled knowingly at me. I blushed deeply when his hand wandered a little further down my back than I would have liked. Yet, I made no move to stop him, and was much too drawn in by his beauty to really notice what was right and what was wrong.

“You’re stunning” I blurted out.

He seemed taken back by my boldness and yet, something in his eyes informed me without words that he knew it already. Such arrogance, but then it is to be expected. I would no doubt know it as well if I looked anything like him.

The song came to an end all too soon, but before I had the chance to thank him for the dance, another man approached us, who was even more beautiful.

“Mind if I cut in?” he said, his eyes removing my clothes as he spoke.

I gulped and looked back at the brunette who nodded, agreeing to the situation. Before leaving me with another handsome stranger, he bowed and planted a kiss on the back of my hand. I blushed once more and quickly thanked him for approaching me and asking me to dance. When he had walked off and was no longer in view, I turned back to the blonde who was waiting patiently for me to dance with him. His hair was tied back with a black velvet bow as little curls crept onto his cheeks. As I was admiring him as well as the last, the sound of an all too familiar song poured around the room and I squeaked involuntarily. The man grinned as wide as he could, and I found it odd that he would choose to keep his lips sealed in doing this, but thought nothing more of it as he wrapped an arm around my waist and held my hand in his.

This madness, starts burning
The victim of a strange desire
Mistaken, we follow
Restless emotions take you down
Unwilling, still hunger
For lustful pleasures I have found

As I listened to the words and wanted badly to sing along, he spun me effortlessly around in circles, as well as around the floor as though we were floating on air. The beat seemed to thump in time with my heart as the man held me dangerously close to his body, so much so that I could feel his own heart thumping.

Soft voices, seduce you
A butterfly in a spider's web
Infectious, behaviour
You're damned to do it all again
He's a good man in a bad time
He's a good man in a bad time

The song neared its end as he gave me one final spin around the floor before dipping me low toward it. My head was barely inches from the marble flooring as he had dropped me, his arm clinging tightly to my waist so I would not fall. In the silence that now surrounded the room, I lifted my head and opened my eyes to find almost all the couples were watching us. My face turned the same colour as my dress, but when I tried to hide it, it only made it worse. I was desperate to get back up and wander off to find a hiding place, but the mysterious stranger held me there so I could not move. With his arm still around my waist, his other hand came up and he ran his fingers delicately over my face and down my neck. His hands were also ice cold, which I found to be very odd. The temperature in the room was by no means cool. In fact, I would have believed the amount of bodies in here would emanate so much heat it did not require the use of flames.

“What is your name?” he asked, pulling me back up but keeping an arm around me.

“Lenora, and yours?” I said, waiting patiently for his answer, blissfully unaware of his arm.

“Such a beautiful name, Chérie” he spoke, his accent giving me goose bumps, “I am Lestat”

I looked at him with amazement as he told me his name. This ball, this masquerade was all his idea. That only meant one thing as well, that he was the owner of this fine building, and now a suspect in my on going investigation. I would not tell him this, for no doubt he would banish me for good and then I would never be able to find out all that I wanted to know.

“Lestat, you have a lovely home” I said, realising now that his arm still lay about my waist.

Whilst we shared another conversation, I stepped back and pulled his arm from around me, watching a small frown appear on his face at the action. My heart beat hard against my chest as his eyes dove deep into mine, searching my soul. I gulped as I had done earlier and found myself completely lost in his blue orbs. They were like crystal, only the shade of a summer sky, and very bewitching. His lips curled into a grin as he found me staring openly at him, without any shame at all. I failed to notice until his hand came up and caressed my cheek softly. What was once freezing had turned fairly warm, and I wondered how that was even possible. He had gone from ice to sun in a matter of seconds. I furrowed my brows in frustration and noted that his smile faltered, but knew not why.

“Do not worry yourself so much over petty things, it is exhausting” he muttered, more to himself.

I had only caught a few words, but before I had chance to ask him to repeat what he had said, the brunette from earlier approached us. He greeted the blonde with a smile and an embrace, leaving me standing there awkwardly beside them. Their hug seemed to last forever, and I played with the ring on my finger as I waited for them to pull apart. Once they did so, they remained awfully close for a moment or two, whispering words to each other that I could not hear, and perhaps I was not supposed to.

I excused myself as politely as possible. Both turned their heads toward me as I walked off and out of the room. What I could not see would have given me far more information that I could have ever asked for. Both of them, as they watched me leave their presence with shocked looks, bared the sharpest of fangs.

I'm pleased you're enjoying this so far and only hope further updates are to your liking as well!

--------------------------------------

When I passed by the man at the front door of the house, he smiled and bid me good evening once more as I retreated down the never ending path through the overgrown trees. I was taken back by all that surrounded me and a little stunned that the path seemed to go on for so long.

Somewhere further down the path, I stumbled upon a rather shabby looking wooden house, and became intrigued instantly. I did not know whether or not venturing inside was a good idea, but my huntress instincts kicked in and almost booted me into the little house without my consent. Once inside, my guilt was long forgotten as the smell and sight of dead doves were scattered about the place. I heaved and quickly covered my mouth, holding my stomach as though it would save me from retching. The blood covering the beautiful animals was the cause of my immediate sickness, and yet I could not work out what might have happened to them. It looked almost as though they had each been shot, separately, but I knew how ridiculous an idea that was and thought nothing more on the matter. My knees buckled beneath me as I walked back toward the path, and before I could catch myself, I hit the ground hard. I let out a cry of pain as my knees left huge dents in the earth. Sobbing, I stood as carefully as I could and stumbled back toward the masquerade. If for nothing else, I needed to get myself cleaned up and find a place to stay the night. Somehow I knew that there would no doubt be plenty of room in such a huge building.

“Madame, what happened?” the doorman questioned, his eyes curious at the sight of my torn dress.

“Just a little accident. But, I am afraid I cannot make it back to my hotel, and do not wish to call for a driver at such an hour. Would it be possible to take a room here for one night?” I asked, hopeful.

The man seemed unsure for a few moments before stepping aside once more and letting me inside. After he had called another over to guard the door for any intruders, he held out his arm and I linked mine with his. I had to smile at such a gentlemanly gesture. He helped me carefully up the staircase that seemed to go on forever, and just as we reached the top, the brunette I had danced with earlier walked toward us. In his eyes, I could see panic as he looked at me.

“Sir, she had an accident and would like a place to stay for the night” the man said.

I looked between him and the beautiful stranger as every vein in his face seemed to pop at the thought of me staying in this house. After a long silence however, he nodded to the man and told him to go back to his duties, so he may show me to my room instead.

“Thank you. I’m sorry to be so much trouble” I said, looking down at the floor.

We walked in silence through several different corridors before finally reaching a room he deemed suitable enough for the likes of myself. I would have questioned his meaning had he not looked so abrasive. It seemed he was still very unsure and nervous about me being here overnight, but I couldn’t work out why such a thing would be a problem. They had more than enough space, given the size of this house. Surely to goodness they could offer one for only one night.

“There are clothes in that wardrobe over there,” he said, pointing across the room, “and if you need anything during your stay, just call out and we will hear you.”

His words earned a chill right up my spine. After he had told me he would hear me calling, in a house as big as this, I was astonished. I couldn’t fathom how that was possible, and I couldn’t let him know I thought he was being rather stupid. All of these thoughts ran through my head as he stood in the doorway watching me, and something flickered in his eyes briefly.

“You have very little faith in people” he mumbled, closing the door and walking away.

I stood there, baffled and glued to the spot at what he had just said. That was twice now. Once with the blonde and once with the brunette, both of whom lived here, and both of whom were now suspects. Evil laughter entered my head as I stood there pondering a little more, and it startled me. It was not mine of course, and I began to think I was slowly going insane. Sitting down on the bed, I found it to be very comfortable, which was something one would expect in a place such as this. I fell back on it and stared up at the painting on the ceiling, marvelling at its beauty.

Evil is a point of view… God kills indiscriminately… And so shall we… For now creatures under God are as we are… None so like him as ourselves…

The scripted font on the ceiling in the centre of the painting fascinated me. It made me think really hard about what the meaning behind it might be, and as I lay there thinking, the puzzle pieces made sense. I jumbled them about in my head until it was clear to me that only one who cannot die would say such a thing, but still I had little evidence to prove my predictions.

“Chérie, are you hungry?” called a voice from outside.

Rather than shout through the door in such a rude manner, I bounced up from the bed and opened it slightly to reveal the blonde beauty, Lestat. Instead of responding to his question, I was drawn to his face. He was no longer wearing his mask and everything was visible. His beauty was out of this world, and I had to remind myself to breathe when he repeated himself, all the while keeping his eyes connected with mine.

“Ma cher, have you dined this evening?” he asked, again.

His use of the French language made me weak at the knees, and as I almost crumbled to the floor, his eyes wandered down my frame and noticed the holes I had torn in my dress after falling. His eyes jumped right back up to my face and he asked another question, hoping to get an answer out of me this time around.

“I had an accident, that’s all. I thought I saw something, and it startled me and I fell” I said, stumbling over my words as I tried not to reveal too much.

His eyes seemed to have an awful lot hidden inside them as he stared at me. I felt as though they were penetrating my very soul as he took a step closer and brushed his fingertips against my cheek. The familiar feel of his ice cold hands made me jump, at which he pulled his hand back quickly and apologised.

“Forgive me, it is quite a cold night” he said, smiling.

I smiled back, though it felt a little forced. There was definitely something he was hiding, as was the brunette, and sooner or later I was going to get to the bottom of it.

“I am hungry, Lestat” I said, now smiling fully at him.

“Very well, follow me” he said, offering his arm.

I lay my arm in his and held it as we strolled through the house, the silence between us deafening until he piped up and said something I did not expect to hear.

“Did you find the doves, Lenora?” he said.

“I did. What happened to them? It’s like nothing I have ever seen before” I said, curious as to why he would bring up such a subject.

“The villagers who live in this area have a yearly ritual, involving holy birds. As you most likely know, doves are believed to represent the holy spirit, and these people care nothing of putting them to death simply to complete what they think is going to bring them health and well being.” he said.

It actually made sense, and made me realise my accusations about this man and his friend were very wrong of me. I felt a huge amount of guilt upon my shoulders as he continued to describe in detail exactly what these people do during their rituals. It was quite graphic, and made me thankful I was never around for it.

“Lestat, how can you live around such people? It is alright for people to believe in something so strongly, but if and when it causes such a catastrophe, don’t you think it’s a little too much to handle?” I asked.

I turned my head toward him as I asked, desperate to know what he thought of it. We reached what appeared to be the dining room as he responded, releasing my arm and pulling a chair out for me.

“Thank you” I said, smiling warmly.

He nodded in acknowledgement and spoke up, “Louis and I feel that we should not be forced out of our home for any reason at all. We have lived here for, well, a very long time, and see no need to give up this house over a bunch of overly religious villagers.”

“I think I understand” I said, allowing the mention of them living here a very long time to sink in.

I pondered a little more on that fact alone, wondering just how long a very long time was. I almost asked him, but chose otherwise when he flashed a smile my way and scurried off into the kitchen through another door. When he returned, he held a beautiful silver platter in his hands. My stomach growled in response to the smell and he chuckled having heard it. I was amazed that he heard that, for I could not even hear it all that well and he was standing on the other side of the room when it happened.

“I do hope you enjoy this. Forgive me, but I have already dined and must return to my ball. I shall send in a maid to keep you company and tend to your needs until I return.” he said.

Just before he left, he lifted my hand to his lips and placed a soft kiss on the back of it, lingering there for a moment longer than was necessary. I blushed heavily and felt my cheeks flaming when he grinned at me, noticing the state he had put me in. I tried in vain to stifle a giggle, but it was no use. His cheeky grin looked much too amusing to ignore.

“Thank you, Lestat. I really appreciate you doing this for me, and allowing me to stay here. I promise, I will not be a bother to you or your friend. You won’t even know I am here, and by the time you notice, I’ll be on my way before sunrise tomorrow” I said.

“Chérie, could you not find any time to stay a little while longer? I am rather intrigued by you, there is something very unique about your person, and I’d like to get to know you a little more.” he said.

He had moved from the door and was now standing over me as I looked up at him from where I sat. I’d put my fork down and was staring longingly into his icy blue eyes as he waited patiently for my response.

“I suppose I could find some time to stay a while” I said.

His smile was beautiful in all its glory, but still I could not see his teeth. I wondered why he insisted on beaming like that without at least opening his mouth.

“I shall return shortly, do enjoy your meal” he said, winking and stepping out of the room.

I'm so sorry about the late review my dear! But I must say that I'm adoring this! Those poor poor doves! I'm a sucker for such a lovely bird. Lestat is quite the gentleman to allow Lenora to stay the night. :)  I adore the chemistry between those two! I seriously can not wait for the next update :D Simply wonderful work!

I appreciate your kind review, and no worries over the small delay :]

I'm not as happy with this as I'd like to be, but hopefully it will improve further along in the story. My head is tangled with Lestat, Ethan Hunt and now Stacee Jaxx, so it's gonna be a little all over the place :/ I'll try and stick with just the one for now! haha.
