le melithon anuir ..
Those were the words he had used, seemingly without a hint of a quake in his voice and without fear of what it implied, and the longer she kept herself in the silence that followed, the deeper the male slipped into shadows of doubt. She wasn’t aware of his feelings until now, but she knew not how to approach with a response that would let him down lightly. The problem here wasn’t Esteh, but it was in the reality of their situation and the fact that she was not bound to astral realms. The two knew this; he should have considered the cruelty of telling her he loved her when they hadn’t even come across a path that would keep her there longer. For months now they had tried to find a way to prolong her visits, but too long out of her body had its disadvantages and she wound up on returning home bed-bound for days. He knew that, but still he confessed such a thing.
‘ You know we cannot be together, ‘ she spoke, hushed tones riding over the previous silence as she turned his downcast gaze back to her. ‘ That is a wickedness we can’t escape from, Estelon, we have never found a way to challenge space and time to such a degree. ‘ Le melin .. but there isn’t a way, ‘ her own gaze dropped from his face as her hand fell away, a single teardrop pooling at the corner of her left eye and he spotted it despite her looking away from him.
‘ If there was a way, would you stay with me? ‘ he seemed to be softly pleading with her, his own eyes full of the sorrow they both would endure if they tried to make such a relationship possible.
Helene turned away from him fully then, her sadness as she pondered such a thing covering her but without suspected comfort; she returned his affection, but to live in love, unable to share their hearts from moment to moment, would torment her too greatly. She knew she had to find a way if it were possible, without causing him further anguish, to let him down lightly. But as her head had been spinning for several minutes with possibilities that always reached a solid brick wall, neither of them were powerful enough to prevent the inevitable that would see them separated no matter how they chose to go about it. She couldn’t live like that.. she was wondering if he could because of the abrupt declaration mere moments ago; surely he was more wise to her predicament.
Further tears sprung forth now, both eyes pooling as single streams fell from her cheeks but she shot forward before he could even reach for her to comfort her woe. Estelon did call after her, but the woman would be inconsolable for a short time so he understood his place; he wasn’t to move to find her until a certain amount of time had passed, albeit a difficult task for him to undertake. A strong need and desire he had to offer her protection and the love he had already developed that aided in his understanding of the fact that she now held his heart in the palm of her hands even if she felt it was a dangerous road to travel. They were very different, but still very much the same - it burned deep within his chest, his ache for her and knowing his love was returned, amped it up.
‘ Helene, ‘ he spoke, his voice barely above a whisper as he moved nearer to the balcony where she stood, her body reacting to his presence long before he said a word as her shoulders tensed and fingers tightened their hold on the stone ledge.
‘ Don’t, please.. ‘ she managed, broken more so than earlier when she had run out on him, but it did not sway him from approaching, until he stood directly behind her and lifted his hands up and settled them on her shoulders. ‘ Esteh.. please, ‘ she added, a hiccup in her voice to indicate she had not forgotten the tears she had cried, nor the faint blush that tinted her cheeks as she felt the male loosen one of the ties at the back of her dress to drop her sleeve down off her shoulder - as the room provided to place a tender kiss upon her shoulder was offered in doing so.
‘ Let me have just one night with you, Helene, guren min gaim lín.. ‘ the male spoke these words with such sincerity that she turned slowly in his embrace, pressing her cheek against his chest & allowing him to rest his jaw atop her head for a few fleeting moments of understanding that found its way to both of them, before she pulled back ever so slightly to look up at him.
Estelon held her face in his hands, noting the heat provided by her cheeks as she remained in a way fairly bashful before him, but all he gave in response was a warm smile before leaning down to meet her lips with his own, savouring the sweetness. She allowed him to do this; despite those former words of it being impossible and unlikely for the two to ever engage in anything, it had not once suggested she didn’t want them to. Or, that she had wished him to abstain from it entirely.
‘ One night, ‘ she sounded those words, echoing his request with barely there confirmation that it seemed she had been hoping for all along, but didn’t quite know how to ask it herself. And now - now that he had her in his arms, giving herself to him for such a short fragment of time, he wasn’t going to waste the opportunity to prove just how much he considered her a light in the citadel.
